Jesus said he speaks only what he hears from the Father, and it is by the power of the holy spirit that we are able to have the mind of Christ, and to know God because his spirit is indwelling us. He said my sheep hear my voice, and they follow me. We can listen to what the spirit is saying to the churches. He who has ears, let him hear. These are spiritual eyes and ears. It is following the leading of the spirit. It is knowing and recognizing the voice of God. It is letting him reveal himself to us by showing us who we are. He is holy, we are not. Only by the precious blood of Christ are we made righteous. He said in the OT, I will tell you of things to come. This could be seen as the spiritual gift of prophecy. Your old men dreamed dreams and your young men saw visions. How many times in the OT did God speak to the patriarchs in the night watches through dreams? Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph all experienced these encounters, and they knew who it was speaking to them in visions and dreams. God gives us a chance to prepare our hearts for what's about to come, and he sometimes lets us know of his plans. For I know the plans I have for you, to bless you and give you a hope for the future. He is that blessed hope and we can trust him to keep us through whatever we face. His spirit searches the hearts and reins of every man, and nothing is invisible in his sight. All things are brought to light when he shines his candle to find us in the dark recesses of our thoughts and minds, so we must always have a clean conscience with clean hands and a pure heart.
